Sprout Science Project

Sprouting grapefruit seeds
1. Take the grapefruit seeds and place them against a wet paper towel in a ziplock bag (leave a section of the zipper open so air can get in)
2. Place the bag near a window

3. Make sure the paper towel stays wet (so the seed will get water).

4. Watch the seed coat break off the seed and then watch the seed begin to sprout - examine the different parts of the sprout (roots down, leaf up)
*This can also be done with corn (popcorn).
5. Record what happened.

Boats Float

Steps:
1. Fill the sink or bucket with water.

2. Place a ball of play dough in the water.

3. What happens to the ball of play dough?

4. Take the ball of play dough out of the water and mould it into the shape of a boat.

5. Place the boat made of play dough into the water.

6. What happens to the play dough?

Why this happens:
The ball of clay sunk because there was not enough water pushing against it. The boat floated because it had a greater area for the water to push against.
