What is World Space Week?
The United Nations declared October 4 -10th World Space Week to celebrate the contributions that space science and technology have made to the World. Over 50 nations celebrate this week each year.
Why This Week?
The dates for World Space Week were chosen because of two key milestone dates in space history. October 4, 1957 was the launch date of Sputnik I, the first human-made satellite. The first international space treaty, the Outer Space Treaty went into effect on October 10, 1967.
