Mexico Lesson Plan

Homeschool Teacher - Lesson Plan & NewsletterSeptember 16, 2008

History

September 16th is Independence Day in Mexico. Read more about it here: http://www.elbalero.gob.mx/kids/history/html/independ/antecind.html

Geography

Print out these 2 maps:
United States: http://fga.freac.fsu.edu/resources/academy/pdf/scaled_us.pdf
Mexico: http://fga.freac.fsu.edu/resources/academy/pdf/scaled_mexico.pdf

Which country is larger, the United States or Mexico? Let's do an experiment to find out. About how many Mexicos do you think will fit inside the United States? Write your estimates on a piece of paper. We will use the word approximately. This word means just about or almost. See how many Mexicos fit inside the US, were you close?

Color the United States green and Mexico brown with colored pencils or markers. Glue the United States on a piece of blue construction paper. Glue Mexico below the US because it is South of the US. Then write: Mexico is approximately ____times smaller than the area of the United States. (write how many Mexicos fit into the US)
